On December 10, the Smart Operation and Maintenance System for Wind Farms in Extreme Environments in Xinjiang Featuring Full-Space, Blind-Spot-Free Monitoring and Coordinated Robotics, developed by CHN Energy Xinjiang Power Longyuan New Energy Co., Ltd., passed the scientific and technological achievements appraisal organized by the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering. The project’s overall technology was recognized as reaching an international leading level. It is primarily designed to meet the operation and maintenance needs of wind farms in extreme environments such as deserts, Gobi areas and high-altitude regions.
The project integrates technologies including the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, digital twins and 3D visualization to build a smart O&M system. The system deploys multiple types of inspection robots, including quadruped, wheeled, rail-mounted, nacelle-dedicated, and blade-climbing robots, enabling comprehensive monitoring coverage across aerial, ground, and internal equipment spaces of wind farms. During development, the project focused on overcoming key technical challenges to ensure reliable robot operation under conditions of extreme cold, sandstorms and strong electromagnetic interference.
In terms of data analysis, the project incorporates the physical laws of equipment operation as constraints in model training, with the aim of improving the reliability and decision credibility of lightweight AI models in professional application scenarios. It promotes a shift in O&M practices from routine scheduled maintenance to data-driven predictive maintenance.
The project has now been demonstrated at the Dabancheng Wind Farm Phase III in Xinjiang. Application results show that the system can cope with extremely complex environments and provides a technical solution for precise monitoring and intelligent O&M management of wind power facilities.
